McClatchy takes loss despite strong efforts from Eugene Castillo and Kendall Andrews

Recap: McClatchy Lions vs. Monterey Trail Mustangs

The McClatchy Lions suffered their biggest defeat since November 21, 2023 on Friday. They had to suffer through a rough 71-37 loss at the hands of Monterey Trail. McClatchy was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 39-11.

McClatchy's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Kendall Andrews, who dropped a double-double on 13 points and 14 rebounds, and Eugene Castillo who scored 15 points. Andrews has been hot recently, having posted eight or more rebounds the last six times he's played.

It was another big night for Brandon Gibson Jr, who scored 21 points along with two steals for Monterey Trail. Gibson Jr hasn't dropped below 15points for ten straight games. Rashawn Inglemon was another key contributor, scoring 15 points along with two steals.

McClatchy has been struggling recently, as they've lost six of their last eight contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-11 record this season. As for Monterey Trail, the victory (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 13-1.

McClatchy will head out on the road to square off against Grant at 7:30 p.m. on Monday. Grant has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 445 points over their last six matchups. Monterey Trail won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against Mojave at 5:00 p.m. on January 6th. Mojave is strutting with some offensive muscle, as they've averaged 69 points per game.
