Baseball Recap: Reading Memorial Snags Seventh Win in Last Eight Games

Reading Memorial had to skate by with only a one-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the 12-run drubbing they dealt Wilmington on Friday. The Rockets blew past the Wildcats 13-1. With that victory, the Rockets brought their scoring average up to 6.5 runs per game.

Grady Ventura spent all six innings played on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered a run (which was unearned) on four hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in three consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Alex Merkle was a standout: he went 3-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and two doubles. Those three RBI gave him a new career-high. Isaac Robinson was another key player, going 3-for-4 with three runs and two RBI.

Reading Memorial was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .471. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .320 or higher in three consecutive contests.

Reading Memorial has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won seven of their last eight matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 9-2 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.0 runs over those games. As for Wilmington, they are on an eight-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-9.

Reading Memorial wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next game, a 4-2 defeat against Shawsheen Valley Tech on the 5th. As for Wilmington, they will venture away from home to challenge Stoneham at 4:15 p.m. on Tuesday.
