Basketball Recap: Dayton Comes Up Short

Dayton was not able to break out of their rough patch on Saturday as the team picked up their 14th straight loss. They were beaten by the Elko Indians 49-11. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Indians this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 61-14 back in January.

When it comes to explaining why Dayton lost, don't look at Lisinita Tulimafua-Curran. Despite the final result, she posted four points and three steals.

Elko's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Jessica Vera led the charge by going 5 for 9 to rack up 14 points in addition to five boards and three steals. Vera has been hot for a while, having posted two or more steals the last 17 times she's played. Another player making a difference was Lindsey Johns, who earned ten points and three steals.

Dayton's defeat dropped their record down to 1-15. As for Elko, their win ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 8-11.

Dayton didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 48-20 loss against Churchill County on the 5th. As for Elko, they have also already played their next game, a 42-22 victory against Spring Creek on the 5th.
