Basketball Game Preview: Winfield Generals vs. Cabell Midland Knights

The Winfield Generals will head out to face off against the Cabell Midland Knights at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Given that both suffered a loss in their last games, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this contest.

Winfield's tournament run continued when they took on Wyoming East on Saturday. Winfield came up short against Wyoming East, falling 56-35. While losing is never fun, the Generals can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' West Virginia basketball rankings (they are ranked 39th, while the Warriors are ranked fifth).

Even though the team lost, they still had their share of impressive performances. One of the best came from Rylee Gurnee, who posted seven points and nine boards. The dominant performance also gave her a new career-high in steals (two). Another player making a difference was Gabriella Canterbury, who had nine points.

Even though they lost, Winfield smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 19 offensive rebounds. That's the most offensive boards they've managed all season.

Meanwhile, Cabell Midland suffered their closest loss since December 29, 2023 on Saturday. They fell just short of Pisgah by a score of 58-56.

Winfield now has a losing record at 4-5. As for Cabell Midland, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-3.

Winfield opened the new year with a less-than-successful 72-61 loss to Cabell Midland. Can Winfield avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
