Softball Preview: Paint Valley Bearcats vs. Westfall Mustangs
Paint Valley is 1-9 against Westfall since April of 2017 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Monday. The Paint Valley Bearcats will head out on the road to square off against the Westfall Mustangs at 5:15 p.m.
Paint Valley is is headed into Monday's match looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their 11th straight game on Saturday. They fell just short of Washington by a score of 5-4.
Kasarah Cantrell put in work no matter where she played. On the mound, she pitched six innings while giving up just two earned (and three unearned) runs off seven hits. Cantrell has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive pitching appearances. Cantrell was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run while going 2-for-3.
In other batting news, Sophi Stauffer was cooking despite her team's loss, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while going 2-for-3. Another player making a difference was Delainey Mannion, who went 1-for-3 with a home run and two RBI.
Meanwhile, it was close, but on Friday Westfall sidestepped Huntington for a 14-13 win.
Ava Heath was incredible, going 4-for-5 with four RBI and two runs. The team also got some help courtesy of Sydney Fuller, who scored a run while going 3-for-5.
Paint Valley's loss dropped their record down to 2-15. As for Westfall, their victory bumped their record up to 4-7.
Paint Valley might still be hurting after the 14-0 defeat they got from Westfall when the teams last played on April 5th.
