Baseball Game Preview: Hurricane Tigers vs. Cedar Reds

Hurricane is 2-8 against Cedar since March of 2019 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Wednesday. Hurricane will head out to take on Cedar at 3:00 p.m. The contest will give Hurricane their first taste of in-conference action this season.

It was a proper cat-fight when Hurricane duked it out with Richfield on Wednesday. Hurricane walked away with a 6-2 victory over Richfield. While the Tigers didn't have the best season last year (they finished 7-15), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past.

Hurricane saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Lani Matsuoka, who scored a run while going 2-for-3. Taylon Nolan also deserves some recognition as he brought in his first RBI of the season.

Meanwhile, Cedar faced Cedar Valley in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Saturday. Cedar put the hurt on Cedar Valley with a sharp 17-9 win. The result was nothing new for the Reds, who have now won four matchups by six runs or more so far this season.

Jake Burgess was a standout: he scored four runs and stole a base while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances. Those four runs gave him a new career-high. Ty Rowley was another key player, going 3-for-4 with three RBI, one triple, and one run.

Cedar was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .462. They are a perfect 3-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.

The victory made it two in a row for Cedar and bumps their season record up to 6-4. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.5 runs over those games. As for Hurricane, their record now sits at 6-4.

Hurricane came out on top in a nail-biter against Cedar in their previous matchup back in April of 2024, sneaking past 4-3. The rematch might be a little tougher for Hurricane since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
