Baseball Recap: Coastal Academy Victorious

Coastal Academy had lost three games at home, but after bumping their record up to 8-7 on Friday that streak is in the rearview. They skirted past the Orange Glen Patriots 8-6. That's the third time they've managed to beat them this season, with their most recent win being a 7-6 victory on Wednesday.

Jayden Boon was excellent, going 2-for-4 with two doubles, two RBI, and one run. That's the most doubles he has posted since back in February. The team also got some help courtesy of Aidan Christopherson, who went 2-for-3 with one run and one RBI.

As for Orange Glen, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost six of their last seven matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 7-9 record this season. They just can't catch a break and have now endured four defeats in a row.

On Orange Glen's side, Jacob Morales was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. On the mound, he struck out nine batters over six innings while giving up just two earned (and five unearned) runs off 12 hits (and only one walk). That's the fewest earned runs Morales has allowed since back in March. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.

In other batting news, Alex Martinez was cooking despite his team's loss, going a perfect 3-for-3 with three RBI, one triple, and one run. He has become a key player for Orange Glen: the team is 3-1 when he posts at least three hits, but 4-8 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Francisco Herrera, who went 1-for-4 with two RBI and one double.

Coastal Academy has already played their next game, a 7-3 win against Tri-City Christian on the 22nd. As for Orange Glen, they also wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next contest, a 10-4 victory against Army-Navy on the 17th.
