Basketball Recap: Wakefield Takes a Loss

Wakefield lost against Heritage back in January, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The Wakefield Wolverines received a blow as they fell 79-62 to the Heritage Huskies. While losing is never fun, the Wolverines can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 215th, while the Huskies are ranked 96th).

Despite the defeat, Wakefield saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Avery Hicks dropped a double-double with 15 points and ten rebounds. What's more, Hicks also posted four assists, the most he's had since back in December of 2024. Another player making a difference was Peyton Fogle, who earned eight points.

Wakefield has traveled a rocky road recently having lost eight of their last nine matchups, which has put a noticeable dent in their 10-14 record this season. As for Heritage, their win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 13-11.

As of now, neither Wakefield nor Heritage have any future games scheduled.
