Portageville had already won six in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 36.8 points) and they went ahead and made it seven on Wednesday. They took down the Malden Green Wave 59-41. Given the Bulldogs' advantage in MaxPreps' Missouri basketball rankings (they are ranked 72nd, while the Green Wave are ranked 228th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Portageville's victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 14-2. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 68.7 points per game. As for Malden, their loss was their first in the district, dropping their district record down to 6-1 and their overall record down to 10-5.

Portageville didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 61-31 win against Kennett on the 30th. As for Malden, they will have a little extra prep time after the defeat as they won't be playing again for a while. They'll take on East Prairie at 7:30 p.m. on February 10th.
