Baseball Recap: Southwestern Drops Highest Score of Season Against New Washington

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Southwestern). Everything went their way against the New Washington Mustangs on Tuesday as they made off with a 22-2 victory. The win continues a trend for the Rebels in their matchups with the Mustangs: they've now won nine in a row.

Braxton Lewis made a big impact no matter where he played. He struck out six batters over five innings while giving up just two earned runs off five hits. Lewis was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with two RBI and one run.

In other batting news, Southwestern got a massive performance out of Jeter Chatham, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with four runs, two doubles, and one stolen base. Chatham is becoming a predictor of the Rebels' success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 1-4 when he doesn't). Barron Welsh was another key player, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with three runs, two RBI, and one double.

Southwestern always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .681. They are a perfect 3-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.

Southwestern's record is now 6-4. As for New Washington, they dropped their record down to 2-6 with the loss, which was their fourth straight at home.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Southwestern will face off against Milan at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. As for New Washington, they will take on Switzerland County at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The Mustangs' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Pacers have averaged an impressive 6.8 runs per game this season.
