Basketball Recap: Neelah Leach's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Whitney Young over Neumann-Goretti

While it was all tied up 25-25 at halftime, Whitney Young was not quite Neumann-Goretti's equal in the second half on Friday. They fell 65-61 to the Saints. The Dolphins have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Whitney Young lost despite a true team effort on offense. The best among them was Neelah Leach, who almost dropped a double-double with nine points and 11 rebounds. Thanks to that strong game, she now owns an excellent 45.5% field goal percentage. The team also got some help courtesy of Jordyn Ellis, who shot 55% from the field on her way to 16 points and six boards.

Reginna Baker continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines for Neumann-Goretti, putting up 23 points in addition to seven rebounds and three steals. Baker is crushing it when it comes to steals: she's grabbed at least two every time she's taken the court this season. Kamora Berry was another key player, scoring 15 points.

Whitney Young's defeat dropped their record down to 2-4. As for Neumann-Goretti, their victory (their first of the season) made their record 1-3.

Whitney Young wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, a 66-50 loss against Potomac School on the 13th. As for Neumann-Goretti, they have also already played their next matchup, a 70-56 defeat against Red Bank Catholic on the 14th.
