Preview: Vail Christian Saints vs. Caprock Academy Eagles
Vail Christian has played every game this season on their home court, but they'll have to hit the road on Saturday. They will challenge the Caprock Academy Eagles at 1:30 p.m. Neither Vail Christian nor Caprock Academy posted many points in their last games, so it might be the defenses that decide this one.
Last Saturday, Vail Christian took a serious blow against Gilpin County, falling 47-19. Vail Christian has struggled against Gilpin County recently, as their match on Saturday was their third consecutive lost matchup.
The losing side was boosted by Noelle Razee, who scored 12 points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points she has scored all season.
Meanwhile, Caprock Academy beat Telluride 25-17 on Saturday. Given Caprock Academy's advantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 139th, while Telluride is ranked 284th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Caprock Academy found their leader in underclassman Taylor Phillips, who scored ten points along with eight rebounds and six steals. Those ten points set a new season-high mark for her.
Vail Christian now has a losing record at 1-2. As for Caprock Academy, the win makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 4-2.
Vail Christian beat Caprock Academy 39-32 in their previous meeting back in January. Does Vail Christian have another victory up their sleeve, or will Caprock Academy turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
