Spanish Fork hasn't had much luck against Maple Mountain recently, but that could start to change on Tuesday. The Dons will square off against the Golden Eagles at 7:00 p.m. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Spanish Fork comes in on six and Maple Mountain on 17.
Spanish Fork is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Monday. They came out on top against Cyprus by a score of 7-3. Seven seems to be a good number for the Dons as the squad scooped up a win with the same number of runs in their previous game.
Jackie Sorenson was excellent, going 3-for-4 with one run and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Nixon Warren, who went 2-for-3 with two runs and one RBI.
Spanish Fork was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .424. They are a perfect 7-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
Meanwhile, Maple Mountain never let their opponents score on Monday. They blew past Viewmont 10-0. Considering the Golden Eagles have won 20 contests by more than five runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.
Chase Johnston made a splash no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only two hits while striking out 13 over six innings pitched. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in 11 consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Cy Chrisman, who went 1-for-4 with one home run, five RBI, and one stolen base. AJ Thomas was another key player, going 3-for-4 with one triple, one run, and one RBI.
Spanish Fork's record now sits at 14-16. As for Maple Mountain, their record is now 27-1.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Tuesday as neither team is afraid to steal. Spanish Fork has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 2.7 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Maple Mountain struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 3.9 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Spanish Fork couldn't quite get it done against Maple Mountain in their previous meeting back in April as they fell 4-0. Can the Dons avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
