Baseball Game Preview: Luray Bulldogs vs. East Rockingham Eagles

Luray is 2-8 against East Rockingham since May of 2018 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Thursday. The Luray Bulldogs will look to take advantage of their home field for the first time this season as they take on the East Rockingham Eagles at 6:00 p.m. Both come into the match bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Luray is coming home in high spirits after they had to open their season on the road against Buffalo Gap. Luray never let Buffalo Gap get on the board and left with a 3-0 victory on Monday.

Not much got past Conner Hilliard, who gave up just two hits and racked up six Ks to keep Buffalo Gap off the board. Furthermore, Hilliard didn't allow a single earned run, the first time he has blanked an opponent since back in April of 2024.

At the plate, Luray saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Nick Cubbage, who went 1-for-4 with one stolen base, one double, and one RBI.

Meanwhile, East Rockingham gave their fans exactly what they wanted out of a home opener on Tuesday. Everything went their way against Page County as East Rockingham made off with a 23-2 win. The victory continues a trend for the Eagles in their matchups with the Panthers: they've now won seven in a row.

Landon Bruce made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits over four innings pitched. Bruce was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple. That's the most hits he has posted since back in April of 2024.

In other batting news, Brady Grant was a standout: he scored three runs and stole a base while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances. Another player making a difference was Aidan Rexrode, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 1-for-1.
