Basketball Game Preview: Galena Pirates vs. South Beloit Sobos

The Galena Pirates will face off against the South Beloit Sobos at 6:45 p.m. on Thursday. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Galena comes in on three and South Beloit on six.

Galena will bounce into Thursday's matchup after beating Fulton, who they had gone 1-6 against in their seven prior meetings. Galena had just enough and edged Fulton out 44-42. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Pirates have posted since January 26, 2024.

Meanwhile, South Beloit was able to grind out a solid victory over Hinckley-Big Rock on Tuesday, taking the game 57-49.

South Beloit pushed their record up to 23-4 with the win, which was their 12th straight at home dating back to last season. They've dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 37 points. As for Galena, their victory bumped their record up to 16-11.

Everything went Galena's way against South Beloit in their previous meeting back in February of 2024, as Galena made off with a 71-47 win. Will Galena repeat their success, or does South Beloit have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
