Baseball Game Preview: Valley Central Vikings vs. Washingtonville Wizards

The Valley Central Vikings will venture away from home to square off against the Washingtonville Wizards at 4:15 p.m. on Wednesday. Given that the two teams suffered a loss in their last games, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this match.

Valley Central easily dispatched Monticello on Thursday, but unfortunately both the margin and the ultimate result were a different story in this one. The Vikings fell just short of Pine Bush by a score of 4-2 on Monday. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest loss the Vikings have suffered since May 8, 2024.

Valley Central saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Mason McDonald, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base and one run.

Meanwhile, Washingtonville was not able to break out of their rough patch on Monday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They lost 15-5 to Cornwall Central.

Andrew Dempsey and Brennan Tesseyman did some serious damage despite the final result: Dempsey got on base in all three of his plate appearances with two runs and one stolen base, while Tesseyman went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases and two runs. Washingtonville is 3-1 when Tesseyman posts two or more stolen bases, but 3-7 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Frank Schiraldi, who went 1-for-2 with two RBI, one run, and one double.

Valley Central now has a losing record of 6-7. As for Washingtonville, their loss dropped their record down to 6-8.

Valley Central might still be hurting after the 11-2 defeat they got from Washingtonville in their previous matchup two weeks ago. Can the Vikings avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
