Softball Recap: Chaparral Comes Up Short

Chaparral extended their losing streak to 12 on Wednesday, dropping their season record down to 1-12 in the process. They lost 17-0 to the Foothill Falcons. Having soared to a lofty 11 runs in the game before, the Cowboys' shutout was a dramatic turnaround.

As for Foothill, they are on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last nine contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 9-10-1 record this season. They might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won eight matches by 12 runs or more this season.

For Foothill's part, Camren VanThomme made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out seven batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit (and not a single walk). VanThomme has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in nine consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Hailey Gilbertson, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, two stolen bases, and three runs. The dominant performance also gave her a new career-high in RBI (four). Selena Jose was another key player, getting on base in all three of her plate appearances with four stolen bases, one run, and one RBI.

Looking ahead, Chaparral will face off against Eldorado at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday. Foothill does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
