Preview: Warren Warriors vs. Belpre Golden Eagles
Warren is 9-0 against Belpre since December of 2014, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Tuesday. The Warren Warriors will head out on the road to face off against the Belpre Golden Eagles at 7:15 p.m. Warren knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past three matchups -- so hopefully Belpre likes a good challenge.
Last Saturday, Warren was fully in charge, breezing past Gallia Academy 68-35 at home. Given Warren's advantage in MaxPreps' Ohio basketball rankings (they are ranked 98th, while Gallia Academy is ranked 279th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Among those leading the charge was Trent Taylor, who dropped a double-double on 17 points and 12 rebounds. The matchup was his third in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Connor Barry, who scored 11 points.
Meanwhile, Belpre unfortunately witnessed the end of their three-game winning streak on Sunday. Their rough 77-54 loss to South Webster might stick with them for a while. The loss unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Belpre in their matchups with South Webster: they've now lost three in a row.
The losses dropped Warren to 2-1 and Gallia Academy to 1-2.
Everything went Warren's way against Belpre in their previous matchup back in February as Warren made off with a 77-55 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for Warren since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
