Preview: Hanahan Hawks vs. North Charleston Cougars
Hanahan is 0-5 against North Charleston since January of 2022 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Hanahan Hawks will head out on the road to challenge the North Charleston Cougars at 7:30 p.m. The squads are rolling into the game with opposing streaks: Hanahan has struggled recently with five losses in a row, while North Charleston will arrive with six straight victories.
Last Friday, Hanahan lost to Beaufort at home by a decisive 50-33 margin. Hanahan has not had much luck with Beaufort recently, as the team's come up short the last six times they've met.
Hanahan's loss came about despite a quality game from Jonah Auckenthaler, who dropped a double-double on 15 points and 11 rebounds.
Meanwhile, North Charleston put the finishing touches on their sixth blowout victory of the season on Saturday. They blew past Burke 74-48. North Charleston pushed the score to 58-28 by the end of the third, a deficit Burke cut but never quite recovered from.
North Charleston's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Marco Simpson led the charge by scoring ten points along with three steals. Another player making a difference was Onarae Grant, who scored 11 points.
Hanahan dropped their record down to 6-13 with that loss, which was their fourth straight at home. As for North Charleston, their victory bumped their record up to 12-8.
Hanahan was dealt a bruising 60-30 defeat at the hands of North Charleston in their previous meeting two weeks ago. The game was all but decided by halftime, at which point Hanahan was down 35-10.
