Volleyball Game Preview: Union Wildcats vs. Battle Spartans

Union and Battle are an even 3-3 against one another since August of 2015, but not for long. The Wildcats will head out to face off against the Spartans at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Union will be strutting in after a victory while Battle will be coming in after a defeat.

It was a proper cat-fight when Union challenged St. James on Thursday. The Wildcats were the clear victors by a 3-0 margin over the Tigers. The Wildcats haven't had any issues with the Tigers recently, as the game was their eighth consecutive win against them.

Not only was the match a shutout, it was a big one: Union took every set by at least 15 points. The match finished with set scores of 25-3, 25-10, 25-9.

Abigail Harles was the offensive standout of the matchup as she had 17 digs and four assists. Those four assists gave her a new career-high.

Union was lethal from the service line and finished the match with 15 aces. That's the most aces they've managed all season.

Meanwhile, Battle was not able to break out of their rough patch on Saturday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They fell 2-0 to Fort Zumwalt West.

While Battle was not able to make it on the board, they still kept things close, especially in the second set. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-12, 25-22.

Battle's defeat dropped their record down to 6-8. As for Union, their victory bumped their record up to 4-16.

Union was able to grind out a solid win over Battle when the teams last played back in October of 2024, winning 3-1. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Wildcats since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
