Baseball Game Preview: Pewitt Brahmas vs. Hawkins Hawks

For the second straight game, Pewitt will face off against Hawkins. The Brahmas will take on the Hawks at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. The last three games Pewitt has played have been within two runs, so don't be surprised if it's a close one.

Pewitt heads in on the heels of a playoff matchup on Friday. They fell just short of Hawkins by a score of 7-6.

For Hawkins' part, Brayden Givens was a major factor no matter where he played. He struck out nine batters over 4.2 innings while giving up just one earned (and four unearned) runs off two hits. Givens has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in five consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.

In other batting news, Eli Smith was a standout: he went 3-for-4 with three RBI and one run. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in March. Tilar Maberry was another key player, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs and one stolen base.

Hawkins was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .379. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Pewitt only posted a batting average of .192.

Hawkins has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won seven of their last eight contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 23-8-1 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.6 runs on average over those games. As for Pewitt, their defeat dropped their record down to 12-7.
