Golden Sierra is 2-7 against Rio Vista since October of 2015 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Grizzlies will be playing at home against the Rams at 7:00 p.m. Golden Sierra is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 48.4 points per game this season.
On Friday, Golden Sierra humbled Mesa Verde with a 45-14 victory. With the Grizzlies ahead 27-7 at the half, the game was all but over already.
This one was won in the trenches and the lion's share of the credit has to go to Cody McCoard and Noah Prine. McCoard gained 133 total yards and three touchdowns while Prine gained 136 total yards and two touchdowns. McCoard didn't just play on offense: he also picked up two sacks and made 13 total tackles. Andrew Gerondakis was another key player, throwing for 163 yards and two touchdowns on only 13 passes.
Golden Sierra was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 350 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 179 rushing yards every time they've taken the field this season.
Golden Sierra didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off three passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Gabe Brown-aranda and Michael Goski.
Meanwhile, after some red-hot attacks on offense in their last four contests, Rio Vista finally came back down to earth on Friday. They had to suffer through a 54-0 loss at the hands of Woodland Christian. The matchup marked the first time this season in which the Rams were not able to get on the board.
Even if they lost, Rio Vista's defensive line still kept up the pressure with three sacks. Leading the way was Nate Frisbie with two. Frisbie is also crushing it when it comes to total tackles: he's made at least five every time he's taken the field this season.
Golden Sierra is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five games. That's provided a nice bump to their 6-2 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 42.8 points over those games. As for Rio Vista, their loss was their first in the league, dropping their league record down to 4-1 and their overall record down to 5-3.
Friday's contest might be decided on the ground. Golden Sierra has been unstoppable on the ground this season, having averaged 274.9 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Rio Vista struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 297.5 rushing yards. There's a good chance Friday's matchup turns into a tough fight on the ground.
Golden Sierra ended up a good deal behind Rio Vista in their previous meeting back in October of 2024, losing 38-22. Will the Grizzlies have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check MaxPreps after the match for a full breakdown of the game, commentary, and other football content.
