Baseball Game Preview: Quapaw Wildcats vs. Wyandotte Bears

For the first time this season, Quapaw will have a chance to prove themselves in a conference matchup on Saturday. They will be playing in front of their home fans against the Wyandotte Bears at 10:00 a.m. Quapaw has given up an average of 7.5 runs per game this season, so hopefully the team got some pitching drills in this week.

While Quapaw's win against Copan wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. Quapaw had just enough and edged out Copan 14-13. Considering the Wildcats' hitters had been struggling lately, the high-scoring outing was a much-needed turnaround.

Jace Gregory made a splash while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out ten batters over five innings while giving up five earned runs off five hits. Gregory was also solid in the batter's box, scoring three runs while going 1-for-4. That's the most runs he has posted since back in March of 2024.

In other batting news, Quapaw let Cooper Welch and Jaxon Myrick run wild. Welch scored four runs while going 4-for-5, while Myrick scored two runs and stole Two bases. while going 1-for-3. Those four runs gave Welch a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Gunner Parker, who got on base in four of his five plate appearances with three RBI.

Meanwhile, after soaring to 15 runs the game before, Wyandotte was a bit more limited in their match on Thursday. They lost 13-1 to Dewey. The loss was the Bears' first of the season.

Wyandotte's loss ended a five-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 2-1. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 14.6 runs over those games. As for Quapaw, the victory got them back to even at 2-2.

Quapaw came out on top in a nail-biter against Wyandotte when the teams last played back in April of 2024, sneaking past 6-5. Will Quapaw repeat their success, or does Wyandotte have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
