Baseball Recap: Cimarron's Victory on Tuesday Extends Winning Streak to Five

The matchup between Cimarron and Ulysses on Tuesday hardly resembled the 3-0 effort from their previous meeting. The Bluejays were the clear victors by a 19-4 margin over the Tigers. The result was nothing new for the Bluejays, who have now won three matches by nine runs or more so far this season.

Breck Averhoff made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over three innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off four hits. Averhoff was also stellar in the batter's box, firing off two home runs, four RBI, and one double while going 4-for-4. He also scored two runs, which is notable because Cimarron is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 1-2 otherwise.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Alex Schlesener, who fired off two home runs, eight RBI, and one stolen base while going 4-for-4. Those eight RBI gave him a new career-high. Trace Kopper was another key player, getting on base in four of his five plate appearances with one home run and one stolen base.

Cimarron was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .545. Their batting average was a full 0 higher than the also-impressive .412 that Ulysses posted.

The win (which was Cimarron's fifth in a row) raised their record to 5-2. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.4 runs on average over those games. As for Ulysses, they dropped their record down to 0-5 with the loss, which was their fourth straight on the road dating back to last season.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Cimarron beat the Tigers by a score of 10-8 later that day.
