Softball Recap: Henry Clay Wins Going Away Against Bourbon County

Henry Clay made up a huge gap compared to their last game against Bourbon County, but they still couldn't quite topple them. The Blue Devils put the hurt on the Colonels with a sharp 10-1 victory on Tuesday. That nine run margin sets a new team best for the Blue Devils this season.

Ella Smith was a major factor no matter where she played. She struck out eight batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits (and not a single walk). She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one walk in seven consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two RBI and one double.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Elise Pearson, who went 4-for-5 with two stolen bases, three runs, and three RBI. She also put up a triple, which was her first of the season. Kathryn Skaggs was another key player, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 1-for-3.

Henry Clay kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.

The win made it two in a row for Henry Clay and bumps their season record up to 5-6. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.5 runs over those games. As for Bourbon County, their defeat was their sixth straight at home dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 2-9.

Coming up, Henry Clay will venture away from home to face off against Bryan Station at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Bourbon County, they will be taking part in a tournament against Webster County at 6:45 p.m. on Thursday.
