Washington-Marion takes loss despite strong efforts from JA'VONTE GIMS and ASHSTON SAVOIE

Recap: Washington-Marion Charging Indians vs. Bunkie Panthers

If the Washington-Marion Charging Indians were feeling good off their 63-42 takedown of the Hamilton Christian Warriors on Tuesday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. Washington-Marion took a 66-61 hit to the loss column at the hands of Bunkie. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as Washington-Marion came into the contest with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps' Louisiana basketball rankings (they are ranked 114th, while Bunkie is ranked 273rd).

ASHSTON SAVOIE and JA'VONTE GIMS certainly did their best on Friday to try and avoid the loss. SAVOIE scored 20 points, while GIMS scored 18 points. Those 20 points set a new season-high mark for him. The team also got some help courtesy of MONTE FARMER, who scored nine points.

Washington-Marion has not been sharp recently, as they've lost three of their last four matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-8 record this season. As for Bunkie, their win ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 1-9.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Washington-Marion will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on North Central at 7:00 p.m. on January 5, 2024. Bunkie will have some time to savor their win since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Beau Chene at 6:00 p.m. on January 2, 2024. Beau Chene will be looking to extend their current five-game winning streak.
