Basketball Recap: Kennedy Comes Up Short

Kennedy lost against Waterbury Career Academy back in December of 2023 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Wednesday. The Kennedy Eagles took a 62-54 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Waterbury Career Academy Spartans. While losing is never fun, the Eagles can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Connecticut basketball rankings (they are ranked 134th, while the Spartans are ranked 34th).

Leading Waterbury Career Academy to victory were Alex Turner and Anthony Rodriguez. Turner posted 16 points and seven rebounds, while Rodriguez scored 14 points in addition to six boards and three steals. Those seven boards gave Turner a new career-high. Maekhi Weaver was another key player, almost dropping a double-double on ten points and nine rebounds.

Kennedy has been struggling recently as they've lost seven of their last eight contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 2-10 record this season. That patch can't be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 57.0 points per game. As for Waterbury Career Academy, the win (which was their sixth in a row) raised their record to 13-3.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Kennedy has already played their next match (against Wilby), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. Waterbury Career Academy will challenge Crosby at 7:00 p.m. on Monday.
