League recap: Jefferson tops Strawberry Crest to extend winning streak

Jefferson extended the longest winning streak in 6A District 8 this week by beating Strawberry Crest, 35-31. This was the team's fourth consecutive win.

Jefferson and the Chargers played the most hotly contested game in the league this week, with Jefferson eventually emerging with a 35-31 victory. Deiondre Porter threw for 202 yards and two touchdowns and ran for 74 yards in the win.

Strawberry Crest's offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Tristan Hyde threw for 203 and two touchdowns and Karel Hamilton had 119 yards receiving. On the ground Chris Perez chipped in 111 yards. Josh Hyde helped Strawberry Crest's passing attack out by catching three balls for 61 yards.

Jeremy Earle's team's Porter and Jonathan Moore have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. Porter has thrown for 2055 yards this season, while Moore, a 6-foot-0 receiver, has 51 catches for 963 yards. Sickles's Ray Ray McCloud III leads the league in rushing yards with 1132.

Entering into this week's contest against East Bay, Hyde is short just three passing yards to break 2,000 on the season. Accruing a total of 18 touchdowns this year, Hyde has thrown for 1997 yards with 12 interceptions.

The Dragons' Moore needs only 37 receiving yards against Brandon to crack 1,000 for the season.

The Gryphons took down Leto 51-6 last week, the largest margin of any game. Nate Mills threw for 31 yards and two touchdowns and ran for 32 yards in the win.
