Softball Recap: Houston Hawks vs. Kodiak Bears
Houston had lost five straight on the road dating back to last season, but on Saturday they dropped their record down to 0-2 to make it six. They lost 28-7 to the Kodiak Bears. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Bears this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 26-0 on Friday.
As for Kodiak, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 3-3. The result was nothing new for the Bears, who have now won three matchups by 21 runs or more so far this season.
For Kodiak's part, Jillian Mahle made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Mahle was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two stolen bases, three runs, and three RBI.
In other batting news, Sienna Mickelson was a standout: she went a perfect 4-for-4 with three stolen bases, four runs, and three RBI. Another player making a difference was Haylie Ferguson, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with four runs, three RBI, and one stolen base.
Houston and Kodiak will both get a bit of extra prep time before their next contests. The next time the Hawks see the field they'll take on Soldotna at 5:00 p.m. on May 1. As for Kodiak, their break will end when they face Palmer on May 2.
