Softball Recap: North White Vikings vs. North Newton Spartans

North White had lost three straight at home, but on Tuesday they dropped their record down to 7-9 to make it four. They lost 8-1 to the North Newton Spartans. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Vikings of the 12-0 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in April of 2024.

As for North Newton, the victory (which was their eighth in a row) raised their record to 11-1-1. The team dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 10.2 runs.

For North Newton's part, Sydney Rainford made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out 15 over seven innings pitched. Rainford has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in 12 consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with one home run, two stolen bases, and three runs. That home run marked the first that she has launched this season.

In other batting news, Riley Higgins was excellent, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with one run and one RBI.

Coming up, North White will take on Tri-Township at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. As for North Newton, they will be taking part in a tournament against Frankfort at 6:00 p.m. on Friday.
