Softball Recap: Rutland Extends Winning Streak to Three

Rutland proved they can win big last Tuesday (they won by 15) and on Monday they proved they can win the close ones too. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with an 11-10 win over the Central Chargers. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Hurricanes have posted since August 20, 2024.

Brielle Howell spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and nine unearned) runs on eight hits and racked up ten Ks. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in three consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Rutland got a big performance out of Adrianna Kadian, who went 2-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. Kadian has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times she's played. Addison Payne was another key player, getting on base in three of her five plate appearances with two runs and one RBI.

The win was the third in a row for Rutland, bringing their record up to 5-18. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 17.7 runs over those games. As for Central, they now have a losing record of 10-11.

Rutland has already played their next game (against Central), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. As for the Chargers, they will square off against Jefferson County at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Warriors have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 10.76 runs per game on average), something Central will no doubt try to take advantage of.
