Preview: Chardon Hilltoppers vs. Riverside Beavers
Chardon is 7-2 against Riverside since October of 2014, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Friday. The Chardon Hilltoppers will look to defend their home field against the Riverside Beavers at 7:00 p.m. Both teams come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Chardon had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 45.5 points), and they went ahead and made it three on Friday. They claimed a resounding 56-0 victory over North at home. The result was nothing new for Chardon, who have now won four games by 35 points or more so far this season.
Meanwhile, it was close, but on Friday Riverside sidestepped Mayfield for a 14-12 victory. Given Riverside's advantage in MaxPreps' Ohio football rankings (they are ranked 50th, while Mayfield is ranked 252nd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Riverside haved a senior duo take command as Mikey Maloney threw for 181 yards and two touchdowns and Brady Mcknight picked up 80 receiving yards and two touchdowns.
Riverside's defense stepped up as well, laying out the QB four times. The heavy lifting was done by Cayden Calogar and Dom Kirks who racked up four sacks between them.
Chardon's victory on Friday bumped their record up to 6-3. As for Riverside, their victory was their 12th straight at home (dating back to last season), bumping their overall record up to 8-1.
Chardon lost to Riverside at home by a decisive 21-7 margin in their previous meeting back in September of 2022. Will Chardon have more luck at home instead of on the road?
