Basketball Recap: Thales Academy Rolesville Comes Up Short

Thales Academy Rolesville lost against Southern Wake Academy back in February of 2018, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The Thales Academy Rolesville Knights were beaten by the Southern Wake Academy Lions 80-35. While losing is never fun, the Knights can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 324th, while the Lions are ranked 21st).

Thales Academy Rolesville's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Coleman Richman, who posted seven points. Another player making a difference was Owen Cleek, who earned seven points.

Southern Wake Academy's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Kobe Plata led the charge by dropping a double-double on 12 points and 11 assists. What's more, Plata also racked up seven steals, the most he's had since back in February. Another player making a difference was Seung Surmons, who went 7 of 12 en route to 20 points and four steals.

This is the second loss in a row for Thales Academy Rolesville and nudges their season record down to 2-9. As for Southern Wake Academy, the victory keeps them at an undefeated 7-0.

Thales Academy Rolesville will square off against St. David's at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Southern Wake Academy, they didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 54-46 defeat against Harrells Christian Academy on the 7th.
