Preview: Lewiston-Altura Cardinals vs. Wabasha-Kellogg Falcons
Lewiston-Altura and Wabasha-Kellogg are an even 4-4 against one another since December of 2014, but not for long. The Lewiston-Altura Cardinals will be home for the holidays to greet the Wabasha-Kellogg Falcons at 7:15 p.m. on Friday. Having both just faced considerable losses, both teams are looking to turn things around.
Lewiston-Altura's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Tuesday after their third straight loss. They were outmatched by Plainview-Elgin-Millville at home and fell 72-28. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest points Lewiston-Altura has scored all season.
Meanwhile, Wabasha-Kellogg took a serious blow against Chatfield on Tuesday, falling 69-38. While losing is never fun, Wabasha-Kellogg can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Minnesota basketball rankings (they are ranked 329th, while Chatfield is ranked 150th).
Even though the team lost, they still had their share of impressive performances. One of the most dominant came from Ileana DeAngel, who scored 21 points along with eight rebounds. She scored a full 55.3% of Wabasha-Kellogg's points, the fifth time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Brielle Adams, who scored 12 points along with six rebounds.
Lewiston-Altura's defeat dropped their record down to 2-4. As for Wabasha-Kellogg, they bumped their record down to 1-4 with that loss, which was their 14th straight on the road dating back to last season.
Everything came up roses for Lewiston-Altura against Wabasha-Kellogg when the teams last played back in January as the squad secured a 71-41 win. Does Lewiston-Altura have another victory up their sleeve, or will Wabasha-Kellogg turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
