Baseball Recap: Centennial Comes Up Short

Centennial was the 7-6 winner over Normal West when they last played one another last Monday, but their luck changed this time around. The Chargers fell just short of the Wildcats by a score of 9-7 on Thursday. That's two games in a row now that the Chargers have lost by exactly two runs.

Cal Meyers put in work no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one walk in three consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 1-for-5.

In other batting news, Madden Schurvinske made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-4 with one home run and three RBI. That home run marked the first that he launched this season. Jake Miller was another key player, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 2-for-4.

This is the second loss in a row for Centennial and nudges their season record down to 3-5. Even worse, they were so close both times: the losses came by an average of only two runs. As for Normal West, they pushed their record up to 7-2 with the victory, which was their fourth straight at home dating back to last season.
