Volleyball Game Preview: Academy of International Studies Dragons vs. Bloomfield Warhawks

The Academy of International Studies Dragons will head out to take on the Bloomfield Warhawks at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Academy of International Studies has four straight wins, Bloomfield has 15 straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the court.

On Monday, Academy of International Studies beat East Windsor 3-1.

Academy of International Studies walked away with the victory (and looked especially good in the first set). The match finished with set scores of 25-15, 18-25, 25-16, 25-20.

Academy of International Studies' win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Lisa Weinberg, who had eight digs and six aces. That's the most digs Weinberg has posted over her last six matchups. Another player making a difference was Angie Zuluaga- Gonzalez, who had 22 digs and two aces.

They weren't the only good servers: Academy of International Studies was lethal from the service line and finished the match with 23 aces. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now served at least 13 aces every time they've taken the court this season.

Meanwhile, Bloomfield lost 3-0 to Simsbury on Monday.

Academy of International Studies' victory bumped their record up to 16-3. As for Bloomfield, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-15.

Everything went Academy of International Studies' way against Bloomfield in their previous meeting back in September, as Academy of International Studies made off with a 3-0 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Dragons since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
