Baseball Recap: Oceanside Turns Things Around After Road Loss

There's no place like home for Oceanside, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Thursday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against the Lawrence Bulldogs on Tuesday, sneaking past 3-1. This was a revenge game for the Mariners: when they faced off against the Bulldogs last Wednesday, they had to take a 3-1 defeat.

Jake Watkinson made a big impact no matter where he played. He struck out 14 batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned run off five hits (and only one walk). Oceanside is 4-2 when Watkinson allows two or fewer earned runs, but 3-4 otherwise. Watkinson was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run. Those two RBI gave him a new career-high.

Watkinson wasn't the only one making solid contact as five players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Blade Brann, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base and one run.

Oceanside now has a winning record of 7-6. As for Lawrence, their loss dropped their record down to 5-5.

When Oceanside and Lawrence next hit the field, they'll be up against teams who recently just can't seem to lose. The Mariners will try to stop Cony's five-game winning streak when they meet at 4:15 p.m. on Wednesday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Oceanside 3.4, the Rams 1.8) so any runs scored will be well earned. Meanwhile, Lawrence will challenge Mt.
