Basketball Recap: SIUE East St. Louis Charter Snaps Six-Game Streak of Wins at Home

SIUE East St. Louis Charter was the 61-49 winner over North County Christian when they last played one another back in January, but their luck changed this time around. The SIUE East St. Louis Charter Cougars fell 68-58 to North County Christian on Thursday. Even though they lost, the Cougars' still made a splash on offense and bumped their average scoring up to 51 points per game (they're now ranked -1th in scoring overall).

When it comes to explaining why SIUE East St. Louis Charter lost, don't look at Breon Johnson. Despite the final result, he dropped a double-double on 22 points and ten rebounds. Johnson's evening made it three games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Kejuan Rives, who dropped a double-double on 18 points and 12 boards.

Even though they lost, SIUE East St. Louis Charter smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 23 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in seven consecutive games.

SIUE East St. Louis Charter's loss ended a six-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 2-5. As for North County Christian, they have been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five contests, which provided a nice bump to their 6-2 record this season.

SIUE East St. Louis Charter and Southwestern will round out the year against one another at at 4:30 p.m. on December 28th. As for North County Christian, they will get to enjoy the win for a while: their next game is against Elsberry at 6:30 p.m. on January 3, 2025.
