Softball Game Preview: Millry Wildcats vs. Leroy Bears

Millry hasn't had much luck against Leroy recently, but that could start to change on Monday. The Wildcats will venture away from home to square off against the Bears at 9:00 a.m. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty run totals in their previous games.

Millry is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Friday. They walked away with an 11-7 victory over Fruitdale.

Scarlett Kirkland spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four earned (and one unearned) runs on seven hits.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Lilly Doggette, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, five RBI, and three runs. That's the most runs she has posted since back in March of 2024. Another player making a difference was Jaden Cooley, who got on base in two of her four plate appearances with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.

Millry was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .393. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Fruitdale only posted a batting average of .250.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Leroy). They blew past Millry 18-3 on Friday. The result was nothing new for the Bears, who have now won 14 games by six runs or more so far this season.

Millry is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 14-11-1 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.8 runs over those games. As for Leroy, their victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 19-9.

Millry suffered a grim 18-3 defeat to Leroy in their previous meeting on Friday. Can the Wildcats avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
