Salem took a three-set loss the last time they faced off against Hubbard, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Quakers had just enough and edged out the Eagles 3-2. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Quakers have posted since August 23rd.
If you add up the scores from across all five sets (102-101) Salem actually scored fewer points, but in the end it didn't matter. The match finished with set scores of 25-18, 16-25, 25-23, 20-25, 15-11.
Abigail Knickerbocker paced Salem's offense, picking up 23 kills. Knickerbocker got some help from Macey Troy and her 33 assists. Finally, Macy Pieniazek kept Salem's defense grounded, leading the team with six blocks.
Despite the defeat, Hubbard saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Emma TEtrick had 16 digs and two aces. TeTrick has been hot, having posted 13 or more digs the last six times she's played. Sarah Brand was another key player, getting seven digs and two aces.
Salem moved to 7-15 with that win, which also ended their three-match losing streak. As for Hubbard, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 13-9.
Salem does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Hubbard, after both having extra time off, they and Jefferson Area will shake off the cobwebs and hit the court against one another at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday.
