Preview: Lytle Pirates vs. Cotulla Cowboys
Lytle is 9-1 against Cotulla since January of 2020, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Friday. The Lytle Pirates will look to defend their home court against the Cotulla Cowboys at 6:15 p.m. The timing is sure in Lytle's favor as the squad sits on three straight wins at home while Cotulla has been banged up by 12 consecutive losses on the road.
Lytle stacked a 12th blowout win onto their ever-increasing hoard on Tuesday. They put the hurt on Natalia with a sharp 68-44 victory. Given Lytle's advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 357th, while Natalia is ranked 1249th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Calyssa Sevier continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines, dropping a double-double on 30 points and ten rebounds. Sevier is absolutely dominating the point category: she's posted at least 15 every time she's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Arianna Garcia, who scored eight points along with 14 rebounds.
Meanwhile, Cotulla scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Friday. They claimed a resounding 45-9 win over Dilley at home. For those curious, yes, that was the biggest win Cotulla has managed all season.
Lytle has been performing well recently as they've won ten of their last 12 contests, which provided a nice bump to their 22-7 record this season. As for Cotulla, their win bumped their record up to 3-17.
Everything came up roses for Lytle against Cotulla when the teams last played on January 9th as the team secured a 63-32 victory. Will Lytle repeat their success, or does Cotulla have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
