Softball Recap: Airport Finds Home Field Redemption Against Ida

There's no place like home for Airport, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Wednesday. They came out on top against the Ida Bluestreaks by a score of 5-2 on Saturday. For the Jets, this counts as revenge for the 4-0 win the Bluestreaks walked away with the last time they faced one another back in June of 2019.

Brooklyn Martin was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out ten batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned runs off two hits (and only one walk). Those ten strikeouts gave her a new career-high. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.

In other batting news, Airport let Peyton Zajac and Kennady Kroll run wild. Zajac went 1-for-2 with two stolen bases and one RBI, while Kroll went a perfect 3-for-3 with two RBI. That's the most RBI Kroll has posted over her last 11 matchups. The team also got some help courtesy of Brenna Baker, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base and one run.

Airport hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. The team has now struck out at least five batters in six consecutive games.

Airport is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 13-4 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.3 runs on average over those games. As for Ida, their defeat dropped their record down to 5-7.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Airport will host Summerfield at 9:00 p.m. on Saturday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Jets 2.6, the Bulldogs 3.7) so any runs scored will be well earned. As for Ida, they will face off against Dundee at 4:00 p.m. on Monday.
