Softball Game Preview: Montclair Cavaliers vs. Diamond Ranch Panthers

For the second straight game, Montclair will face off against Diamond Ranch. The Cavaliers will head out to face off against the Panthers at 3:30 p.m. on Friday. Montclair has now lost eight straight, leaving the team hunting for their first win since April 4.

Diamond Ranch hit Montclair with a six-run second inning on Wednesday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Cavaliers lost 11-5 to the Panthers.

For Diamond Ranch's part, Izel Avalos made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, keeping things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out seven over five innings pitched. Avalos has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-5 with three runs and one stolen base.

Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.5 runs over those games. As for Montclair, their loss dropped their record down to 3-16.

Friday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Montclair hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .315. However, it's not like Diamond Ranch struggles in that department as they've averaged .368. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
