Baseball Recap: Make It Four in a Row for Manzano

Manzano came tearing into Saturday's matchup with three straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 11.3 runs), and they left with even more momentum. Everything went their way against the Capital Jaguars as they made off with a 17-3 victory. The result was nothing new for the Monarchs, who have now won eight games by six runs or more so far this season.

Aidan Abeyta made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he pitched five innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off five hits. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in strikeouts (five). He was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with two doubles, two RBI, and one run. Those doubles marked the first that he has hit this season.

In other pitching news, Diego Bustamante looked comfortable as he pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Manzano is 6-2 when Bustamante allows three or fewer earned runs, but 6-10 otherwise.

Back at the plate, Braeden Lucero was a standout: he went 2-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and one double. He has become a key player for Manzano: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 7-12 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Bodey Ethridge, who got on base in all five of his plate appearances with four runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.

The win got Manzano back to even at 12-12. As for Capital, they are on a six-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 12-14.

As of now, neither Manzano nor the Jaguars have any future games scheduled.
