Football Recap: Civic Memorial Takes Loss Despite Strong Efforts from Kevahn Flanagan and Luke Clouser + How To Watch

Civic Memorial had lost eight straight at home dating back to last season, but on Friday they dropped down to 2-7 to make it nine. They took a 24-17 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Taylorville Tornadoes. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Eagles of the 35-9 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in October of 2023.

Civic Memorial's loss came despite strong showings from Luke Clouser and Kevahn Flanagan. Clouser rushed for 130 yards on only 13 carries, while Flanagan rushed for 56 yards and two scores.

As for Taylorville, they are on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five matchups. That's provided a massive bump to their 5-4 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 34.2 points over those games.

Taylorville's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Spencer Brown, who rushed for 146 yards and a pair of TDs while picking up 9.1 yards per carry. Brown has become a key player for the Tornadoes: the team is undefeated when he posts at least 80 rushing yards, but 2-4 otherwise. Owen Mateer was another key player, rushing for 104 yards and one touchdown.

Civic Memorial does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Taylorville, they will face off against Rochester at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Tornadoes will need to watch out since the Rockets have now posted at least 31 points in their last seven contests.
