Softball Recap: Lexington Catholic Picks Up Sixth Consecutive Win

Lexington Catholic waltzed into their game on Thursday with five straight wins... but they left with six. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 2-0 victory over the Woodford County Yellowjackets. The Knights have seen this before: they got the W the last time they saw the Yellowjackets, too.

The result came thanks to Abby Hammond's shutout, as she gave up just two hits and racked up 12 Ks. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 16 consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Lexington Catholic saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Payton Coomer, who went 2-for-3 with one run and one RBI. That's the most hits Coomer has posted since back in March. Lauren Kelley was another, going 1-for-3 with one triple and one RBI.

Lexington Catholic hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least five batters in five consecutive matchups.

Lexington Catholic's win was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 12-8. The road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.0 run on average over those games. As for Woodford County, their loss dropped their record down to 15-11-1.

Lexington Catholic wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next contest, a 1-0 win against Bryan Station on the 13th. As for Woodford County, they have also already played their next game, a 10-3 defeat against Lafayette on the 9th.
