Basketball Recap: Covenant Life Comes Up Short

Covenant Life had lost seven straight on the road dating back to last season, but on Tuesday they dropped down to 0-5 to make it eight. They lost 47-22 to Mount Airy Christian Academy. The Cougars were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 32-11.

As for Mount Airy Christian Academy, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won seven of their last eight games. That's provided a nice bump to their 13-3 record this season. The final result isn't all that surprising considering their considerable advantage in MaxPreps' Maryland basketball rankings (they are ranked 103rd, while Covenant Life is ranked 247th).

Avery Witter continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines, dropping a double-double with 17 points and ten steals. That makes it five consecutive games in which she has scored at least a third of Mount Airy Christian Academy's points. Caroline Apolenis was another key player, shooting 40% from the field en route to 15 points and eight boards.

Coincidentally, Covenant Life and Mount Airy Christian Academy will both be playing Perry Hall Christian the next time they take the court. Mount Airy Christian Academy will head out to face Perry Hall Christian at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday, while the Cougars will head out to face them at 4:00 p.m. on the 2nd.
