Baseball Recap: Lake Central Takes Down Ranked Lincoln-Way Central

Lake Central is ranked highly in their home state and on Saturday they took on another highly ranked team in the form of Lincoln-Way Central. The Indians narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past the Knights 8-6. For the Indians, this counts as revenge for the 7-3 victory the Knights walked away with the last time they faced one another back in April of 2024.

Lake Central got a great performance from Ethan Champman as he tossed five innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off five hits. Champman has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than one walk any time he's pitched this season.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Drew Kosteba, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in April. Keegan O'Bryan was another key player, going 1-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI.

Lake Central's record now sits at 14-3. As for Lincoln-Way Central, their loss dropped their record down to 11-7.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Lake Central will venture away from home to face off against Portage at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Lake Central 3.1, Portage 4.1) so any runs scored will be well earned. As for Lincoln-Way Central, they will head out on the road to square off against Homewood-Flossmoor at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. The last five games the Vikings have played have been within two runs, so don't be surprised if it's a close one.
