The Orange Lions are taking a road trip to take on the Mayfield Wildcats at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. Orange has given up an average of 10.5 runs per game this season, but Thursday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Orange will bounce into Thursday's contest after beating Beachwood, who they had gone 1-8 against in their nine prior meetings. The Lions had just enough and edged out the Bison 22-21 on Wednesday. The victory was familiar territory for the Lions, who have now won three matches in a row.
Kelsey Lewis was a standout: she went 5-for-6 with one home run, five runs, and two stolen bases. With that strong performance, she is now averaging an impressive 2.1 runs per game. Emily Utech was another key player, getting on base in all six of her plate appearances with one home run, five runs, and two stolen bases.
Orange was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .489. The last time their batting average was this high was was before the start of last season.
Meanwhile, Mayfield had to endure a six-game losing streak, but that streak is no more. They came out on top against Revere by a score of 9-5 on Wednesday.
Kameron Sills spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four earned (and one unearned) runs on ten hits.
On the hitting side, Ella Garrett was incredible, going 2-for-4 with one home run and three runs. That's the most runs she has posted since back in March. Audrey Polachek also deserves some recognition as she brought in her first RBI of the season.
Mayfield's record is now 6-11. As for Orange, they now have a winning record of 7-6.
Orange's speedy runners might be the difference in Thursday's game. The Lions have been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.9 stolen bases per game. It's a different story for Mayfield, though, as they've been averaging only 1.2 stolen bases. Will they be able to secure the bases, or will Orange continue to outrun the ball?
