Baseball Game Preview: Fort Worth Country Day Falcons vs. Oakridge Owls

The Fort Worth Country Day Falcons will head out on the road to challenge the Oakridge Owls at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Fort Worth Country Day has 14 straight victories, Oakridge has three straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.

Fort Worth Country Day had to skate by with only a two-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the 19-run drubbing they dealt International Leadership of Texas Keller on Thursday. The Falcons never let the Eagles get on the board and left with a 19-0 win. The Falcons might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 16 matches by six runs or more this season.

The home team had won the previous five meetings between Oakridge and Greenhill, and Greenhill kept the tradition alive. The Owls fell just short of the Hornets by a score of 4-2 on Thursday. That's two games in a row now that the Owls have lost by exactly two runs.

Oakridge got a good showing from Ryder Windham, who tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Windham also tossed no walks, which is notable because the Owls are 5-1 when he allows at most one walk, but 8-10-1 otherwise.

On the hitting side, Oakridge saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Piero Figueroa, who went 1-for-2 with one double and one RBI.

Fort Worth Country Day pushed their record up to 22-2 with the victory, which was their 11th straight at home. The home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.7 runs over those games. As for Oakridge, their loss dropped their record down to 13-11-1.

Fort Worth Country Day was able to grind out a solid victory over Oakridge in their previous meeting back in April of 2024, winning 3-0. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Falcons since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
